Service Capabilities & Safety

Refurb Plus offers a specialised refurbishment and maintenance service for steel windows in the Greater Wellington Region. We are currently working on a number of projects in the Wellington Region, ranging from an in situ historic refurbishment project on the old Dominion apartments to full window removal and restoration on the old Rankin Brown Library Building at the Victoria University.

The friendly staff at Refurb Plus can provide a full turnkey package from conditioning reports through to full project management. Warranties can be provided in some circumstances, giving you the client peace of mind knowing you’re getting a quality job. We also offer with all our projects a full maintenance schedule which will extend the life of your windows.

A Brief History

Refurb Plus is a company, in part, because of the owners (Alex) love of heritage works and carpentry. As a qualified carpenter, Alex has always had an eye for detail and getting involved in projects that other builders didn’t really want to touch, because they were a bit too fiddly or labour intensive. After years in domestic work, Alex worked for several commercial building companies and honed his project management skill-sets, working for clients such as Department of Justice, Foodstuffs and Air New Zealand, amongst others. Moving to the Wellington region with his wife in 2012, presented Alex with the opportunity to form Refurb Plus and reinforce his and now the company’s credentials in heritage and historic building work. Over the last ten years, the company has grown to over ten staff, with a strong mix of domestic, commercial and heritage skill-sets.

Alex
Owner
Alex has extensive experience within the commercial sector. Alex completed his building apprenticeship in the Waikato Area and then took up a cadet position for Mainzeal Construction, working on the Hawkes Bay Airport Redevelopment. Alex quickly progressed to a Site Manager position completing projects in Gisborne and within the greater Hawkes Bay Region. Alex then transferred to the Wellington office, running multiple complex fit-outs.
Geoff
Operational Contracts Manager.
Geoff is our Operational Contracts Manager. Geoff joined Refurb Plus Ltd September 2019 and is a qualified carpenter by trade with over 37 years’ experience in the industry covering both the commercial and domestic markets. Geoff lived in Upper Hutt for many years and started his family there before moving to Australia for 17 years. His adult children still live in Sydney, and he now lives back in Upper Hutt with his wife and their beloved dog, a Rottweiler cross rescue from the SPCA. Geoff has extensive project management experience in both the commercial and residential markets and has a focus on meeting deadlines and communicating with clients regarding expectations and being transparent about any unexpected issues and how to resolve them. He has a keen eye for detail and expects all jobs will be completed to the highest standards. He leads his teams with the same expectations and is always willing to share his knowledge and experience with less experienced apprentices and labourers.
Joe
Lead Builder / Project Manager
Josiah Runciman (Joe) – Lead Builder/Project Manager Joe is an experienced builder with over 15 years’ experience. Joe has worked both here in New Zealand and spent several years working overseas, more recently in Hong Kong, working on complex commercial contracts. On his return to New Zealand a few years ago, Joe undertook building his new family home, whilst balancing the demands of a young family. His professional and building skills have led to a new home any family would be extremely happy to own. In 2023, Joe joined the Refurb Plus team and quickly showed his skill-sets. He has worked to refurbish several homes and project managed, complex commercial projects. Joe manages a small group of apprentices. They enjoy his leadership style and skill-set that he shares willingly.
